Primum Sancti Clavus

“Primoris Talea”
Pen and Ink on Watercolor Paper
18″ x 24″

Ideas: Translated from Latin, the title of this piece means “First Holy Nail”. This again is a seemingly simple drawing of an arm with an sort of geometrically abstracted “nail” piercing a sectioned wrist. Initially, this drawing is meant to be one of a 5 part suite depicting the body of Jesus crucified but for now, I like it as it’s own thing. There is something elegant about the arm springing out of the right side of the composition, almost against the grain. The negative space is hauntingly vacant as it relates to the subject matter and leads to a striking aesthetic.
